Overview

We are looking for a proactive and dedicated Human Resource Officer to join our team at Appleton School. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, training and development, and policy implementation. They will ensure compliance with labour laws, maintain employee records, and support the management in fostering a positive work environment.

Additionally, the HR Officer will play a crucial role in developing effective onboarding programs, performance management systems, and workplace engagement initiatives that align with the school’s values and culture. This role requires a highly organized, self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills, strong ethical standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments. The candidate should be able to work independently with minimal supervision while delivering outstanding results.


About you

A highly organized and detail-oriented HR professional with a strong understanding of human resource functions, including recruitment, employee relations, training, and performance management.

Experienced in handling employee records, maintaining compliance with labour laws, and managing workplace policies to create a productive and legally sound work environment.

Adept at developing and implementing HR initiatives that enhance employee engagement, well-being, and professional growth.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HR software systems, with strong data management and reporting skills.

Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, teachers, and school leadership.

A problem-solver who can handle disciplinary procedures, grievances, and conflict resolution with professionalism and discretion.

Strong organizational and time-management skills, capable of juggling multiple HR tasks while ensuring smooth operations within the school.

Able to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating reliability, integrity, and a proactive approach to HR management.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives and systems.
  • Provide guidance and counseling on company policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in recruitment by preparing job descriptions, posting job ads, and managing the hiring process.
  • Develop and implement effective onboarding programs for new employees.
  • Design and oversee training and development programs to enhance employee skills.
  • Assist in managing performance appraisal and evaluation processes.
  • Support the resolution of disciplinary and grievance issues in compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, including attendance and compliance data.
  • Review and ensure that employment policies and working conditions comply with legal requirements.

Requirements and skills

  • Proven experience as an HR Officer, Administrator, or a similar HR role.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in human resources.
  • Strong knowledge of HR functions, including pay & benefits, recruitment, training, and development.
  • In-depth understanding of labour laws and disciplinary procedures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with HR software is an added advantage.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making aptitude.
  • High standards of ethics and reliability.
  • BSc/BA in Business Administration, Human Resources, Social Studies, or a related field; additional training is a plus.
  • HR certification (e.g., PHR from the HR Certification Institute) is preferred.
